High Oil Consumption?

There’s been several threads lately about high oil consumption. There have also been a variety of explanations / solutions offered.

While checking the internet for “engine break-in procedure”, I found the following links. A couple are kinda lengthy, but have some good info that applies to most all 4 cylinder engines, including the most likely explanation for high oil consumption —- improper break-in procedure!

http://mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
http://www.ntnoa.org/enginebreakin.htm

There are several more. These are just a few of the better ones on the first search results page.

If your engine was broken in “improperly”, and you have high oil consumption, there’s no easy fix. Blame the previous owner if you bought it used. Blame the dealer for giving you bad info / wrong oil / etc. Blame yourself if you just didn’t know any better after an overhaul / rebuild.

I’m not trying to imply this is the only cause, but it’s one that I haven’t yet seen mentioned. It would also be helpful to those looking for info BEFORE buying their first Mini. And, if this "break-in" info is already shown someplace else in this forum, my apologies to all.
