Timing Chain Tensioner
Timing Chain Tensioner
Add my car to the list of Minis that have had a timing chain tensioner issue.
Specifics:
2010 Mini Cooper Clubman S
Oil changes every 5k
56k miles (in other words, 6k miles past warranty)
Somehow my tensioner let go, and I had a complete purging of oil all at once. I was close to home, so I nursed it to my house. The next morning there was a huge puddle of oil in my parking spot. By the time I arrived at home the timing chain was making a racket you guys all have heard about.
Entire timing chain assembly needed to be replaced along with some other miscellaneous items. I was quoted between 2 and $3k for the repair.
Mini of Alexandria went to bat for me and got the majority of the repair covered by Mini for me. So thankful for my service advisor! It's nice to know that I'll have the newer updated tensioner along with the piece of mind that my timing chain is brand new.
