Justa automatic - car goes in manual sport

Hi everyone,

I tried to search this in the forums and under different wordings but nothing came up. If I glossed over any threads that might pertain to my question feel free to forward me to those ones.

I noticed while having my automatic justa in normal drive, the tachometer it said the DS or drive sport/manual sport on and the car was driving in DS mode.

I looked down to make sure I didn't hit the shifter to the left into DS mode but it wasn't. When I moved the shifter into DS mode and then back to normal drive the DS indicator on the tachometer still said DS.

I shut off my car and restarted it, the car was in normal drive and moved the shifter to DS and back.. the issue didn't come up again.

Is this common and if not should I have this looked at? I tried to recreate the issue but wasn't able to yet. I'll see if it'll do it tomorrow again.

When you use the paddle shifters in normal drive mode the gear is indicated, once you stop using the paddle shifters the car automatically shifts to the correct gear and DS is displayed.

Do you have a sport button? Was it pressed by a cup or you accidentally?

Thanks twincoopers & yetti96,

I think I probably pressed the sport button near the cup holder while trying to get my dog go behave in the passenger seat. I wasn't able to duplicate the same situation unless I pressed the sport button.

That's a relief. I was worried because I bought the car used from a sort of sketchy dealer so I just wanted to make sure.

I had a manual and now a justa and I think its a Plusa , you never hear of anyone having issues with the automatics.

@TwinCoopers lol Plusa, I haven't come across that yet maybe I'll start referencing my justa as a plusa.

I bought my mini in Oct '13 at 48k mi and haven't had any issues other than when I first brought it home from the dealer I noticed the driver and driver side passenger footwells were sopping wet. I brought it back to the dealer and demanded them figure it out, though I already knew it had to do with clogged sunroof drains from my research on the forums. The dealer unclogged the drains and shop vacced dry my floors. I also had the dealership replace the front sunroof shade that was jammed for free. After that I've had no problems since just an oil change.

It seems that most but not all of the problems I've been reading on the forums here are mostly with the S. From my time spent reading the forums that many but not all justas are trouble-free along with your experience as well. Then again I'm pretty new to the forums here so any insight would be great. Thanks for the support!

I'd recommend a transmission fluid change. MINI says it is lifetime, but that is a load of baloney. Changing the fluid is cheaper than changing the transmission, by a who lot.

The story behind referring to the automatic as a Plusa not a Justa.

We had two 2011 R56S’s an auto sport package and a manual sport package with a JCW tuning kit, I found in real world city, highway and back road twisties the auto was just as quick overall. That totally surprised me since the manual with JCW kit pulled harder, producing more peak power and was a little lighter. My conclusion was the auto held consistent turbo boost and power throughout the gears shifts without cutting the throttle and the computer did an overall good job upshifting in the best spot on the power band in sport mode.
