Timing chain question (hopefully not a retread)
Timing chain question (hopefully not a retread)
I have an appointment to take my 2010 Clubman S with 15K to the dealer to have the rear window defroster looked at.
I don't have any cold start noises and have not received a letter about the timing chain campaign. The production date of my car was 9/09.
In the timing chain threads, I've read that the dealers will check for the old tensioner and if found, will measure the chain slack to see if the chain needs to be replaced. I checked my car's tensioner bolt head and it has a depression in the middle of the head. I've skimmed the many threads on this and could not find whether I have the old or the updated tensioner. I have looked at the previous service records and there is nothing related to the timing chain or the tensioner in my vehicle's history, so I am thinking I have the old tensioner.
My question is whether I should push the SA to check on the tensioner and get it replaced. Does the updated tensioner solve the issues with the timing chain or is there a change in the timing chain that corresponds to the updated tensioner to eliminate the issues of death rattle?
I have been following these threads fairly closely and have searched for this information and came up blank.
Thanks.

Got it back from the dealer and they said that I had the updated tensioner. Mine has the dimple in the tensioner head. According to the SA, I should not have any problems with it, but time will tell.
