alta aluminum crank pulley destroyed!

My tensioner gave out. The braket was broken in half and the shock piece landed on the alta crank pulley. It tore the grouves all up. Ive replaced everything that was damaged but the crank pulley. I want to go back to oem and want to know if i can use a r56 crank pulley/harmonic balancer on my r53.

No R56 part is going to work on your R53 engine. I'd recommend a new idler pulley & new crank pulley. If your tensioner failed the idler is not far behind. I use an ATI damper on my MINI.

Damn. I was hoping the r56 crank pulley would work. Found one for a good price ( 55$) i did replace the idler pulley to be safe.

Sorry you can't use the stock R56 one on an R53. But don't go back with a stock one. Go with the ATI Damper it 10x better than the OEM and won't fail again.

ATI can be had for $350, not cheap for sure but you will never need to worry about it again and depending on how long you plan on keeping your MINI its a rebuildable part. This is really cool if you track your MINI because you can have it rebuilt every season if you want.

A while back ATI had some cosmetically blemished dampers for half price. I jumped at the chance and frankly couldn’t find the blemish.

They sold them through eBay but a call to ATI may get you a bargain.

That said even at retail, it is the only way to go.
