upper motor mount success
upper motor mount success
Thanks to all the DIY posters on this site!!!
Successfully changed out my upper motor mount today after purchasing a new Lemfoerder for ~$70 (autoshop recently quoted me $248 total- which didn't sound too bad but I had the time, so...)
One warning for those attempting this: when you unscrew the E12 torx bolt underneath, have some rags spread/ready b/c yours might not be done leaking oil yet - mine wasn't - the remaining oil came running down onto my driveway.
Engine movement: the motor may very likely shift, causing misalignment of the bolts when you reinstall your bracket - no worries - you can easily move the engine enough to allow realignment.
Next time...serpentine belt and crank position sensor replacements...
Thanks again NAM members!!!

Do you feel that the replacement feels exactly like the factory original motor mount, and not harsh like the polyureth. motor mount.
I have a polyureth in my car right now and I don't like how much the doors and dash make so much noise and vibration. I am thinking on going back to the OEM, but if the Lemfoerder is a better product, then I will order one.

Quick update...my recently replaced OES upper engine mount appears to have sprung a small leak already. Not surprising, but disappointing nonetheless being only 3 months new. Ah well. Bottom line, if you're keeping your MINI, don't go OES or OEM, go solid poly...

Every time you replace the hydraulic mount it will last shorter and shorter. Your other mounts wear over time and allow the engine to rock more, putting more stress on it and causing a leak sooner. Beef up your other mounts with powerflex inserts and you'll have better luck.
Don't go poly. I just sold my poly because everything rattled, was noisy and ran like a track car. Fine if I wanted to track the car, but I just use the car to cruise around town and on the fwy for long, long distance trips.

I might have some warranty option, but since it just started spitting trace amounts of fluid and I'm trading it in soon, I'll let it ride for now and let the next person deal with it.
If I were keeping the car, I'd definitely go non-OEM/OES

From what I've read, the Vibra-technics mount is a good compromise between the stock and solid-poly mount.

Very expensive though. When the stock mount in mine wears out again, I might give the Vibra-technics a try...
I agree, the poly (TSW) gave too many vibrations for me - although I did live it for 2 years.
