Hi all,
Friend's 2009 base MINI hardtop (21,000 miles hard driving)- had a coconut-sized tree seed pod destroy her windshield. Windshield was replaced 2 weeks later. Day after windshield was replaced, the Service-lift light illuminated as did the red "BRAKE" light. Ran onboard diagnostics and all checked out OK. She thought it was an electrical problem.
When I reviewed everything yesterday, all looked aok except when reviewing the onboard computer service schedule, I'm seeing the carlift service icon and scrolling through, front car wheels icon with "-340 miles" (related to her front brakes past service?). That with the red "BRAKE" light staying on tells me it is either the rotor sensor fell off or most likely tripped (since front pads seem a little less than 1/8"). Sound about right or am I missing something? Car starts and runs perfectly fine otherwise.
Thanks for any help!
Greg

yes, I'd say the sensor tripped if there is 1/8 of pad remaining. Rule of thumb is to replace pads when they are less thick than the backing plate. And 21,000 is not unusual wear especially if you admit 'hard' driving. I averaged about 24,000 to a set of pads in both my S.

Just had this happen to my 07 MCS, one of my rear brakes tripped the sensor.
