Installing supercharger inlet tube

I'm going to pull my car apart tomorrow night to diagnose a P1498 code. I'm suspecting the supercharger inlet tube is leaking, so if I confirm it is I'm going to pull it off the car and put some RTV over the seams.

Thing is, I'm a little terrified of the plastic inlet tube and the green gasket. I've read a lot of threads on reinstallation, but one question I had, is it easier to jam on when the bypass valve is off that short rubber tube? Is there a reason no one seems to suggest pulling it off to ease reinstallation? Looks like it would make it easier to me.

Loosen the lower hose clamp on the bypass rubber hose
Remove the supercharger inlet, leaving the rubber hose on the BPV
Install the new green gasket on the supercharger
Pull up on the TB when reinstalling the supercharger inlet.
Use a hook or a thin screwdriver to help seat the inlet into the BPV hose.
Can take a bit of muscle but with practice it can be done in seconds.

+1 just did supercharger / water pump service last year; maddening the first time but after trial and error I pretty much wound up with the above procedure. I had completely removed the throttle body as I wanted to clean it and replace the gasket. A touch of silicon spray lube inside the BPV hose helped to slip it onto the SC intake pipe. Be sure to watch your two hard plastic vacuum lines (TMAP and brake booster) that connect to the top/back of it; those two like to break and crack.

Thanks for the tips, I didn't remove the tube yet. Squirted some starting fluid around and could find no leaks :(. Guess I'll have to do a smoke test at some point.

This is one of those projects that will drive you insane because it doesn't seem to fit together properly. Then it drops right in and you just sit there and wonder what the h^ll took you so long.
