Boot latch malfunctioning. Help!
Boot latch malfunctioning. Help!
I have an early 06 r53
My boot latch has started unlatching instead of unlocking. So when I hit the door unlock button or turn off the car the hatch unlatches leaving it free to open as if I just pressed the button over the plate. My dome light was on half the day yesterday as a result and I'm really paranoid with the dog riding back there. This problem started after my last service at the mini dealer.
Possibly related my rear wiper works but behaves erratically and doesn't return to the off position anymore.
Anyone have wiring diagrams or wire routing info?
Does the CPU control this stuff or is it more of a distributed architecture? Any information on how the latch system works would be greatly appreciated..

I think that your latch is letting water into the wires, is possible that you will need a new seal for the boot handle. Did they wash you car at the dealer?
Water can get in through a bad seal or the lic plate light lens.

If your problem is water getting in its an easy fix, + 20 bucks for the seal unless the boot handle is badly corroded.
First you have to determine that this is you case
Mine was doing it after every car wash it would unlock by itself then it would dry out and work normally.
Other times it would just not open at all. In this case I had to use the cable to open it or funny enough turn the lights on and it would open ( no joke)
The boot handle comes off taking out 4 torx T20 I believe then disconnect the cable for the lights and micro switch, scrape the old seal off the handle and put the new one in, clean the electrical connector and put some electrical grease on the micro switch and male to female connector. That should take care of it, there is a chance that you may have to take off the boot panel off to reach the cable but other people have done it without having to.
This may help good luck
