After an initial installer error, got the fuel pump changed out today. We'll see what happens.

Yep, that is a symptom of a failing pump as well, you have 3 out of the 5 so you are on the right track I think. Good luck

Knock on wood but this appears to have been the problem. The car has the idle droop but it never dies now - at least for the 4 days its been in the car.

My car is an '06 so I was only able to find an OEM pump. One of the vendors here had it relatively cheap compared to the standard price.

What an interesting puzzle and detective story. Fingers crossed that the symptoms are gone forever, and thanks for sharing the tale.

Cheers,

Charlie

Same here - hope it's fixed. I guess this is a new set of signs for a failing fuel pump.

Next job - replacing a rusting muffler.

Any updates? I've noticed mine is unlocking the doors more often now and possibly hesitating at 5k RPM.

Sure, car still does the idle droop every once in awhile but doesn't drop as much and the engine hasn't died. I consider the problem fixed.

I must say that replacing the fuel pump was way easier than replacing the exhaust last weekend.
