Alaska Mini

Hi - relatively new to site, sorry if this is a dupe. Moved to Alaska, and I note there are no stock options for block heaters...My daughter will be taking her mini to Fairbanks, where it can have prolonged periods of -40F...any advice?

If it's a first gen mini (2002-06) you can get the block heater from a dealer or from other vendors (apx $100). It's really easy to install if the engine is out (took me 2 mins) and a PIA if the engine is still in. You will likely have to take the exhaust header/cat down pipe off to access the frost plug where the block heater goes (I'm just guessing, there's a chance it can be done without)

Either way, good luck!

Thanks Jamez! It's a GenII (2007) - was wondering if I need to pull the engine. May be time - I think my thermostat is acting up too, and I definately want to change the tranny fluid -- looks like a pain in the butt all around. Wish I'd brought my engine lift up with me...may have to pay someone to do it :(

You could always get something like this and they are pretty easy to install.

I had the same question to my dealer when we bought our 2012 MCS and seems like there is no freeze plus in the Gen II engine , therefore, you cannot install a block heater. At least , that's what we were told by the dealer.
