where is all that oil coming from?

My mini was dripping oil, so i look underneath to check and the oil carter and engine underneath all the way up to the tensioner was filled with oil that was dripping. The tech was looking at it, and he recommended to clean it up, then let it work to see if the start of the leak could be visible. So we did, engine was cleaned, we let it work and its 5days now and no oil appears. Total magic, oil leak is vanished!
What could of been the issue here? Any ideas on what to check again?

Is there any way i might of added by accident engine oil more than usual and then by someway when the engine worked it spilled it out some how... fat chance right?

Crank case has only a little of oil drips around it, but the tech clearly said that all that oil could not of come out from that minor leak!

did you clean it up yourself, or did you let the mini tech clean it up and then later you came back and picked up your car? somethings not right here, if you had a severe oil leak which was coming from the tensioner it was more then likely due to a failing tensioner seal. simply cleaning it up would not slow or even stop the oil leak, and this failure is quite common. if the tech did the clean up, i'm almost certain (if he or she is anything of a sub par tech) they replaced the seal and cleaned the mess.

something isn't right with your story. the only other place oil could be coming from in that area or around that area would be the pcv hose that comes off the valve cover to the underside of the intake manifold. it too is quite common for the hose to break, crack or be leaking oil due to a failing pcv system or when the engine is over filled with oil.

This Hose/Line that connects to valve cover. It will commonly break at either of the connection points, or somewhere along the hose line due to excessive blow by for long periods of time.

Check the bolts on the timing chain cover. Mine began to leak two years after the timing chain tensioner recall was done. Didn't know where the oil was coming from until it got worse. The bolts had become loose over time but re- tightened and no further problems, been months now.
