I can't find a thread on this so I'm going to ask for help- my passenger side windshield washer spray shoots straight up for some reason. The drivers side is fine- any ideas on how to redirect the spray to the glass? Thanks

Use a pin, stick it into the squirter hole and aim it in the desired direction. Keep adjusting that way until it hits where you want it to.

Here's a link on MINI2

For the rear washer, you can use a dime or penny to aim it. Just be careful on the front jets not to break the pin or deform the jet. I used a paperclip so it wouldn't have a sharp point.

Great! The Bently Manual says "Use BMW special tool 00 9 200 (or equivalent) to adjust washer nozzles..."

So BMW actually MAKES a tool, the equivalent of which is a PAPER CLIP? Wow. No wonder the Germans are so uptight.

Well it's a finely engineered, highly tuned, vaguely ergonomic thingy! Which BTW is probably going to cost you $150

Uh Oh

Won't this adjustment void your warranty?

Well yeah... Maybe... If you fill the washer fluid reservoir with battery acid....

It is funny, I found out about this with another BMW. As I understand it the tool is like a telescoping antenna so that you stick it in the sprayer and direct it towards the spot on the windshield you want it aimed at

That would explain the target dimensions given in the Bently Manual. I'll be happy if I can get mine to actually land someowhere on the windshield again!

You might want to check and make sure the sprayer tip isn't broken. Mine started spraying over the roof last week. When I checked it today, I noticed the whole nozzle assembly was not seated properly. Closer inspecion showed the whole thing moved back and forth ~0.25". It turns out the clip that holds it in place was broken (which is part of the sprayer)...I guess this will be my 1st warranty issue...

[size=1]Here's some snips from an email I sent to my MA last month, in the hope it's useful here. The "issue" is quite resolved, but be warned when you have perfect windshield washer jets, you'll have a clear windscreen, but it's gonna splatter and run down the sides of your car:

(email to MA):

.....Also, wanted to run this by you in case maybe you've seen something similar...
Until today, I was having trouble getting the windshield washer jets to work the same way twice!

When the car was only a few days old, I noted how the (front) washer spray seemed a little on the weak side. I confirmed that there was solution in the tank, adjusted the aim a bit to get decent "coverage" and motored on. In hindsight, I should have checked how they worked on some other MINIs.

Fast forward to a week or 2 ago, I hit the spritzer and hear the electric pump sound, but nothing comes from the nozzles. I check for solution in the tank, it's nearly full, so I was scratching my head a bit. I again adjusted the "aim" of the nozzles and hit the switch, hear the pump sounds, and observe windshield washer stuff trickling from the nozzles and running down the bonnet of the car, not going anywhere near the windshield. I worried that some line had come free and was spraying washer fluid on the inner side of the cardboard under the bonnet lid, nightmare scenario.

OK then this morning, (another fast forward), I "bumped" the lever briefly and damned if 4 Very Strong streams of washer fluid arched with much enthusiasm clear OVER the car, yee-haw where did this happy pressure come from! Where was it before? Warmer temps maybe have something to do with it? Crud in the lines which has finally either dissolved or gotten out of the way?

So, I should probably bring the car by, to let a qualified person move the nozzles one last time. I have so far managed to not damage the paint on the bonnet, and I'd probably be pushing my luck to try and adjust them myself again.

Weird stuff huh - what do you think?
(end of email to MA)

His response was to come by and let Service have a look, the nozzles may have been clogged with wax.

good luck, I'm sure it won't turn out to be a big deal,
Tatt

Well, since getting the info on HOW to adjust the nozzles, I have not yet managed to remember to actually DO it when I am out at the car (secure lot around the corner) .

But WOW, tattman, that's a great tale! Good luck with that!

No problem, I'm all good, but... please please be careful what you wear when you're leaning over your car to aim those puppies...
