Tonight I changed the driver side wheel speed sensor.
When I hook the batter back up, the OBC outside temp reads 6 degrees. It is about 50 degrees.
I thought I had switched from F to C, but that is not the issue.
I will get a new temp sensor but is there any downside to driving with the bad outside temp sensor?

I am guessing that hooking the batter back up must have made the sensor fail.
Any other ideas?

I could be wrong but I wonder if the connectors are near each other and you maybe knocked it loose?

 

Could be but the sensor is on the pass side and I was working on the driver side.
Also, I still have readout of 6 degrees, if it was disconnected I don't think I could get a read out.

Anyone have any info on impact the temp sensor has on operation?

Will I run rich by the ECU thinking it is colder outside than it is?

Is the O2 sensor the only measure which impacts fuel delivery, beyond mapping?

I think the only thing it affects is the TCS.

Once it releases that warning bong for cold temperature where ice may be present, the TCS is more sensitive to correct wheel spin. When it's warmer, you can spin your wheels more without it kicking in. This is not a fact, just my observation.

 

I tried the simple solution tonight, disconnect the battery and reset the ECU.

Temp is back to normal.

 

The car has an air intake temperature sensor which measures the temperature and uses that to adjust the fuel mixture.

 

The intake air temp sensor did not fail. I have a SGII which shows AIT and that did not falter. Just the outside temp.
Still don't know why it did not work correctly but I will leave it alone now that the reset resolved it.
