2007 R56 w/ bad oil leaks, toxic fumes in cabin, jumpy cold idle

Hi,

I have a 2007 Cooper S w/ 160k, 6MT. I bought it this spring, and ever since I've had it, it's had a nasty oil leak that I couldn't find. It eventually started burning off and smoking. I was not able to find to source of the leak.

It's recently started venting toxic fumes into the cabin, even with the HVAC set to recirculate or off. These fumes do not smell, and are not smoky... just make me cough and feel ill. I have to assume carbon monoxide is some component.

I've stopped driving altogether and have just been moving from one side of the street to the other for street sweeping.

There are no check engine lights, and the car drives ok. The cold idle is not very smooth, however. I suspect that there is an issue with the crankcase vent system, but don't know how to check this. I just hate this situation: I absolutely love the car, but it's been nothing but trouble since I got it due to the oil leak and ensuing problems.
