So for the last couple of weeks Ive been noticing the the start up rattle progressivley getting worse in our 2010 MCS (52k miles)and being reluctant go to Mini of San Antonio because of the terrible service its known for, I took it to Jesse@ South Texas Automotive Specialist....

Due to their take on just swapping out a tensioner but was advised that a full timing chain replacement and for good reason that I dont regret. i am gratefull now for my extended warranty I purchased with the vehicle, he was able to have the warranty cover a full replacement,....
Once the valve cover was removed he was able to show me evidence of pieces of the timing chain guard that had broken, some of which were in the oil pan.....

it was evedent that a timing chain tensioner replacement probably would have remedied the problem.
I saved the old chain guard to show broken pieces that were in the engine...


a 1600.00 fix that my extended warranty covered, good thing around Christmas time.
My experience with http://www.southtexasautospecialists.com/ was very good they were very informative, courteous, capable to work with the warranty company, one of which had me worried. But no more rattle and the longevity of our MCS has been extended.
