Was I smart to get the Mini extended warranty \ maintenance?

I just got my Mini and I was happy to add in the extended maintenance. I'm still under the original warranty and I'll extend that before it's due. I'm so happy when I read about the repair and maintenance issues so many people are having. Heck, the first time I brought it in for service it needed a timing chain and the invoice for that and the other work with would have been over $3k.

Was I just lucky or was this a good idea? Should I extend the factory warranty to 100k for safety?

Only time will tell if it's a smart purchase or not. Me... intend to get the extended maintenance plan AND extended warranty on my next MINI. I'm not a risk-taker by nature and will enjoy the peace-of-mind knowing I'm covered for any possible problems and all the wear-and-tear items for many years.

Of course, if you didn't negotiate the price of your extended maintenance plan, we'll have to deduct points off your "he's really smart" score.

Yes, I do enjoy the added security of the warranties. Plus, if there's something not right I can bring it in and the dealer is glad to work on it since their service department gets paid by Mini. ;-) They've been most helpful so far.

i plan to keep my cms all4 for a long time, last vehicle was my daily driver for 17 years

i bought the extended maintenance when i ordered the car after i read the full contract, it looks like just 1 full brake job will make the maintence pay, the oil/filter and other fluid changes (2 year coolant and brake/clutch) ensure it was worth doing ... did you know it extends the roadside assistance to a full 6 years?

i did not buy the extended warranty, but i have the option to buy it anytime before the standard warranty expires ... so far, no warranty issues

That's a good plus. I'm sure the dealer used it to sell me on the extensions but I can't say I remember it.
