2009 MCS OBDII Code P0173??
2009 MCS OBDII Code P0173??
Hi, I got the yellow outline engine light this morning. The NAPA guy was nice enough to read the code and found P0173 which he thought was an O2 sensor.
I googled and found another guy with P0173 who had the coolant sensor/thermostat replaced.
Other than that I couldn't find much about P0173 anywhere. I tried to search this forum but I must have been doing something wrong or I am the only person to ever have this code.
I'm trying to decide if the car can make it 2.5 hours to the dealer.
Any information, advise or warnings appreciated.
Thanks

That's because the P-code, P0173, isn't a MINI specific fault code listed in the service manual.
The generic OBDII scanner is pulling generic information; you'll want to grab hold of a approved MINI-protocol scanner like a Bavarian Technic.
From there, you want to rescan and get the exact code, not a generic approximation that can lead you astray.

Thanks Erik. It doesn't matter quite as much now because it only pops and sputters and won't start.
I was mostly worried about my 3 hour trip to the dealer but I think it may have to be trucked.
Thanks again
