The Airbag runaround is getting old.
This air bag runaround is getting old. I won't bore you with the long dull story that involves two dealerships and one good garage. but I have a question that doesn't make sense to Me.
My 2002 R50 is still barely in warranty for the airbag connector issue. After Me latest trip to the dealership they decide the airbags, seat tensioners and connectors are fine but that I need a air bag seat harness update and of course it isn't covered under warranty to the tune of $835.00. I've searched high and low and can't find any mention of this air bag harness update except for the mention on the newer seat harnesses that are longer.
So is it Me are am I missing something here.
Thanks

My airbag lights are schizophrenic too. I gave up and just live with it. Sometimes they work normally other times, not (right now they work - shhh). Took a guy for a spirited ride the other day, he noticed the light was on and asked if he was going to die. I told him "Not unless I do first". The only drawback I see is that MINI doesn't provide a very effective 'Oh S**t' bar.
About the only solution is to replace the whole seat which could do the same thing sometime down the road or tear up the one you've got to replace all the sensor and wiring stuff. Big bucks either way.

Wow, I would have figured they honor the warranty for this. The NHTSA investigation even denotes it's the harness (or maybe I'm reading that wrong).

Sorry to hear this.

some cars were madw with a slightly too short harness between the seat airbags and the car...seat moves....a slight varriation occurs in the voltage from the clip/connector wiggling...and the light is set. It can be reset with a tool, but will reoccur unless the issue is fixed....but the short wire was a pretty specfic group of dates....not sure in all honesty your car matches up...if it does, and they have just repeatly reset the light (dealer) while under warrenty....inquire about good will repair...it SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE FOR FREE. If the light is due to something else...bad wire due to wear, bad airbag, etc, then you are out of luck.
