Pulley Tensioner SHOCK

Getting ready to install a stop in the pulley tensioner unit but noticed the shock is dead.
Dealer informed me shock alone can not be purchased. That $20 part now is $300.. .Why is that?
Did some calling around to find out no one sells the shock only.

Is there a universal replacement shock or is the pulley tensioner unit the smart buy?? ?

I've never heard of the piston being sold seperately. If you find anything Re this, please post

Look around on the tennsioner...should be closee to $240 (oem),plus shipping. Check waymotorworks.
you can buy bushings for the gas strut...but have never seen the strut sold alone...

Looking more closely at the part seems wiser chose just to replace the whole unit.
Searched & found one at ProMini at fair price.

Does not specify if it is a Gates or Liten.

I agree with replacing the whole unit. It is the bracket and tensioner for about $240-50, etc.

It's an important part on the car to make sure it is all working properly. It is worth the piece of mind to spend the extra.
