i got a 2003 cooper for rather cheap....... because it had an engine fire.. but i hope its not going to be that hard to fix up. I havent gotten it yet but its being shipped right now so i might as well start finding the parts that i know im going to need. The fire was pretty much contained on the top and front of the engine.

what i know i need:
radiators
intake
ignition
belts
hoses
and much more...

i want to go ahead and replace everything with aftermarket parts and see what kind of power i can get out of it.

Radiator - i found a radiator off of an S for cheap but will it work with the cooper?
intake - what difference am i going to get from a k&n typhoon and an ebay
ignition - Pilo Racing ignition upgrade or Screamin Demon Hi-Po Coil Packs with Magnecor Spark Plug Wires
Belts - ?
Hoses - Silicon?
And whatever else you mini people know im going to have to replace........

Out of morbid curiousity, post up some pics when you get it. This site may be helpful for putting the beast back together:

Do some real surgery and get a BMW S50 or S52 motor for it. That should cost maybe $3k. Do the install and have 240hp at the crank. Easily modded for 300+hp.

As for Cooper parts, you can try and upgrade to the turbo kit I've been hearing about.

Weird - that's the bumper from a Cooper S, but the engine from a Cooper.

Try to get in touch with some one who has a parts cd. they can figure what parts might be interchangable. Also if you can get a copy of the Service cd that might help as well.

you can also check out the famous auction site for people selling parts to totalled cars...sometimes certain things may remain intact

Would the 1.6 turbo from a Neon SRT-4 work as an engine replacement?

Just curious about HOW CHEAP you got this MC for? I would assume the original owner got a replacement from his insurance company, so he didn't care about recouping any costs??
