P0303 code/hesitation

My 2010 MC has been acting up. It will buck and hesitate when throttled hard, especially in higher gears but going slow, i.e. 30mph in 5th.
It recently threw the above code, (cylinder 3 misfire, etc). I used some seafoam in the intake, and made no difference. This is not related to the cold start issue, since it is present throughout the driving time ( 150 miles round trip from home to work).

Time to start chasing the cause of misfire. It could be spark, fuel, or compression related for a misfire.

Had the same problem for a long time on my R53. Check ignition coils, wires, and plugs. Had mine replaced. Works like new now.

I drive a lot, have almost 57k now. I know the manual says to replace spark plugs @ 100k, but I think they need to be done sooner.

Check your plugs first. I'd replace them, just based on your mileage...but after inspecting them, you can swap them around to different cylinders and see if the misfire pops up on another cylinder. If it stays on 3, swap the coilpacks around and see if that does anything. Should narrow it down.

If it is a compression related misfire (you better hope not), there might be oil visible on one of the plugs..at which point you'll want to do a compression test.

Try all of the above...and if you have no success come back. I'd venture to say you might have carbon related issues...seafoam won't help, you need to manually clean the valves. The carbon buildup is always the worst on #3 and #4...

Culprit = spark plugs

The poor detonation, bucking and hesitation was due to the plugs.
I highly recommend for anyone who drives as much as I do, (35000+ miles a year) to
change the plugs by 50000 miles. I waited a bit to long (currently @ 67000). I know the manual gives 100000k as the interval for non turbo, but if you are a daily long distance commuter, do your car a favor and get new plugs, it makes a world of difference.
