While surfing Ebay for Mini stuff, I came across something too good to be true. For $16.95 one can buy the service manual for the Mini used by dealers, in cd form. Its title is Service/parts Tis/Etk Manual. Has anyone purchased this?? Is this for real? The Ebay item number is 2463841594.

miniyellow,
Can you provide the link to shop manual on e-bay. It almost sounds too good to be real and definitel worth checking into.
Thanks

That is wayyy cheap for that software. The TIS is used by BMW techs and s/w comes from BMW. Most likely a copy of the software obtained from a BMW tech.

But If it goes to 2004 models, i'm going to buy it.

I just bought a copy from the auction. I figure it's worth the $17 risk to see what he's selling.

He just upped the price to $19.95 and I checked his feedback profile...one person wrote: "Fake CD -- this is a copy -- I'm contacting the FBI!"

So basically he's selling copies of the actual CDs... no biggie, I could care less... but anyway, if any one wants to go "halfsies" on it....I'll send you $10 for a copy once you get yours.

Let me know...

-Joe

Is there a way an eBay member might contact him/her to offer the CDs here? If anyone has dealt with this vendor, could you invite him to become a sponsor and sell the CD manuals?

Redline,

See my message above -- seems like this guy is just making copies of the original service manual CDs and selling them on Ebay... If they were legit, I bet BMW would charge A LOT MORE than $19.95 for these!

The guy who left negative feedback is no longer on E-Bay, check the rest of his feedback as well, sounds like a guy I'd like to stay far away from

If anyone has these CDs already...and does not mind sharing...please e-mail me. I'd rather buy them from a fellow NAMer than off Ebay...

Thanks and Rock On,

-Joe

I got the official BMW 12/2002 TIS cdrom about 6 months ago from Schiff European
for $200. I have a 2/03 build MC, and the TIS covers the MC, MCS (and a ton
of BMW models as well).
BMW updates the TIS regularly, but 12/02 was the last version Schiff
was able to get before BMW tightened up their distribution. They also list
the 9/02 ETK for $180.
I've seen a few other sources for these for over $300 on the web.
I subsequently got a 9/02 ETK copy on Ebay for less than $20.
The first one didn't work, but I contacted the seller, and he sent me
another copy that did work for no extra charge.
For 98% of the material on the cdrom, you probably dont really need
the most up to date version anyway, as design and part changes don't
seem to be happening all that much with the MINI.

However, The TIS is not as nice as a good Bentley paper or electronic manual,
it takes up a lot of hard disc space, it's a little akward to navigate, and it's
a bit sketchy.

I have a September '03 copy of the BMW/Mini TIS that I would be happy to trade with someone for the EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog).
The program is definitely big and sluggish, but works well enough to get ANY info you might need about service and maintenance. It even runs well on my Mac using Virtual PC.
I like the idea of receiving updates, although I haven't yet figured out if there's a way to update it online. You probably need a login name and password. The nice thing about updates is that they inform you of any recent service bulletins. Kinda like recalls that the general public doesn't find out about. Squeaks and rattles are normally only covered under warranty for the first year, but when I asked my dealer about the bulletin for a certain rattle I was experiencing, they fixed it, no questions asked, even though I was out of the warranty coverage.
Please PM me if you are interested.

Mike

Trippy,

I resent that statement, I run Mosaic 0.1 on a TRS-80.

I haven't used that site yet, but will try it next week.

do you know if one can register for a day's subscription and download all of the manuals for later use? I am interested in this, but since I'm not even a shadetree mechanic, I would get any value from a long-term subscription. $25 would seem a good deal.

I just bought the disc of ebay- was a little skeptical at first but for $15 was willing to give it a try. I have to say that it's pretty awesome- and is definitley legit- It's like looking backstage-

Diagnosing problems with the car is pretty easy using the "symptom" feature- and the step by step instructions complete with photos of each step are just like the old factory shop manual I had for my E30 BMW- makes working on the car way easy- and now I have all the correct torque specs for every part of the car.

I was even able to diagnose the sqeak in my dashboard- turns out that on march '02 cars- they forgot to put a piece of felt tape on the inside of the dash.

I'm still exploring the disc and will do a full write up on my MINIblog after I have spent some significant time with it. All in all-so far the best $15 I've spent on the MINI so far-
