R56 Turbo 55K miles oil usage question
Hi All:
Hate to say it - but some of the bloom is off..... 10/15 k miles ago - timing chain/rails/tensioner done by dealer because of start up racket. In past months notice grinding and unhealthy blatting sound when accelerating from stop or low down in rpm band. As became more noticeable -began monitoring oil level closely and even tho dipstick to me is hard to read - became apparent adding a quart of 'edge' Castrol 5-30 made noise go away... for about 4/5 weeks.
Approximately 1100 miles till next service. Always heard turbos can use a lot of oil - but this does seem excessive. Have other owners of 2007 turbos been bringing up similar complaints?

I believe you will find that 1 qt per 1,000 is within an acceptable limit per MINI (and many other manufacturers as well).
You could try switching to the Castrol 0W30 that is called for or possibly try a different brand of oil. Might do a better job of sealing things.
