Strut Mount Squeak

I have been dealing with a squeak in the steering wheel ALL YEAR LONG and last night i finally found out what this noise was coming from. When i popped the hood and had a friend turn the wheel, sure enough i could the noise much louder and felt the mounts vibrating. I looked around and saw cases where putting grease into the mount underneath the llittle cap thingy (I didnt even know it came off) and noise went away. Does this work? Well guess im about to find out....

How long did it work for, or did it just not work at all?

Had you replaced the front struts over the past year when the noise had started? I had a problem when I swapped out my struts, my coil overs were "creaking". I had to crank down the top nut not he strut until it felt like it would bust off. The strut had an allen fitting, put a socket on the top nut and cinched down as hard as I could. It creaked again when I turned the wheel, so I did it again even harder, and then it had completely stopped. It felt like I was going to snap the allen wrench.

Thanks for the response, but no, the car still has the original struts. Niquemarshall's solution sounded too easy :-)...oh, well.
