MINI Service Common Sense?

Just an observation and opinion I thought I'd share....

Was at the dealer yesterday for a leaky tensioner bolt. While there, I asked if they would install the turbo oil line heat shield that all the cars now have, but my 09/09 built 2010 does not. I presented the bulletin that shows the retrofit of the part for cars up to as of 12/09 build, and asked if they could stick one on, more of a preventative measure.

SA told me she'd have to write my car up as a turbo issue, and see if MINI would cover the part. Thought to myself, strange...but ok.

So after the oil leak was fixed, I watched as my car went out for a test drive. I watched as the car was heavily accelerated, and I thought that was weird. I get the car back, no shield installed. Was told my turbo was fine (duh) and MINI won't pay for the little oil line shield until there's an actual turbo failure . I always thought an ounce of prevention was worth more than a pound of cure???

Stupid in my opinion. All cars built starting 3 months after mine was comes with the shield...but I couldn't get MINI to give me one, or even hand it to me.

Came home and ordered it from WMW for $26.00.

Just an observation...

All depends on the dealer and how willing they are to satisfy their customers. The tech could have come up with some reason to cover it if they had been willing to service and satisfy their customer. Again that is just my observation. But from what my dealer has done for me compared to what others complain about the dealers not doing. I think I am right in my observation.

Yea, probably right. Just thought it was a pretty stupid issue.
