wheel area noise

yellowhammer needs some new thoughts on the squeeking sounds around especially the passenger front wheel. Squeeks some on drivers side.It reminds me of the noise of rubber to rubber or rubber to metal. This is a 2003 mini--need ideas.

Under what conditions do you hear the squeaks? If during suspension compression it could be anything from lose bolts to needing to replace your bushings/shocks/tower support. If it's constant during normal road driving (minor suspension movement), most likely will be your bushings. Small possibility -- an alignment might also cure it.

I have a noise too coming from my left drivers side wheel well area sounds like rubber rubbing on something. I can only hear it at low speeds and when turn. It's aggravating as heck because I cant pinpoint it noise maker. I've replaced a cracked strut mount, strut dust boots, brake pads and sensors. Any ideas? I was thinking it may be a control arm bushing? My car does pull to the right even though I've gotten the front end aligned....Hmm...

Bushings are one of the more common areas where squeaks occur. Could be control arm, could be the suspension springs bushings can also be the sway bar area (which can also affect alignment). Tell tale signs (if it's gotten this far) is the rubber areas have started to curl/not release as easily.

It's been a while, but I found out what my noise was, so maybe it'll help you out. My CV axle on my MINI's driver side was replaced today, took it out for a spin/test drive and BAM! no more noises. Apparently, the boot on my CV axle was rubbing against a piece of the suspension causing the noise. I would have never known, but my shaft started popping and I needed to replace it. I'd check out your shaft to make sure it isn't going bad, maybe you can catch it before it starts popping if that is what it is.

From MinnieWinniFW's description I'm guessing their outer CV boot was torn(popping sound was the CV joint going bad)? My PS outer CV boot has been torn for some time. Still no tell-tale clicking but it's gone on long enough to warrant an axle replacement (don't want to replace the boot only to discover a bad joint in a few months). Anyway, I've never heard any squeaks, except for one that happens at full stop-I think that creak is def control arm bushing play.
