D.A.B/Battery/ECU/Memory/Sunroof help please :)

Hi Everyone, first post here having bought a 07 plate cooper s works, which is currently having a few problems.

1)Dab is not working atall-it just says signal error and doesnt pick up anything-Im also in a very strong dab area! Now fully working!

2)The battery low power warning light comes on around every 3 days-its fully charged-Ive even taken it out/charged it and tested it-its all fine! but still comes up low charge! New battery sorted and working.

4)Panoramic sunroof does not have set pattern memory such as stopping on the tilt function etc you have to do it manually by taking finger off the button.

5) Car had a new satnav system start of this year and also had non canbus led front sidelights which show errors could they be linked?

Updated for future users, new battery solved all the errors and needed battery recode.

There is a battery program reset procedure that the dealer does with the car attached to their computer. This probably needs to be done as it sounds as if the car is not registering the battery properly. This is normally done at the time of battery replacement if the dealer does it. Many people just put in a new battery and then find they have a problem and others dont. Just depends on what the computer thinks the condition of the battery is.

probably related to the above item.

again may very well be related to the battery problem. the computers in these cars are very very sensitive to battery problems. Could also be a problem with the motor and the sensors that tell its position, they are in the motor housing.

LED side lights will cause the computer to error out as they do not have the right current draw for the bulb check system at start up of the car. so they show as being burned out. common problem. check some of the threads in the electrical section to find a solution.

Any reason why the sunroof rails were replaced? this seems extreme to get the sun roof to only open to the tilt position when that is either a Sensor problem in the motor or a computer problem, not a mechanical problem.

MINI warranties may or may not be transferable you need to read the fine print on that and it varies country to country.

see above where i told you about the computer re-set that needs to be done by the dealer. Just taking it out does not run a reset on it.

Thankyou very much for the reply!

It just seems that its a coincedence that the problems appear to connected...
The voice control also does not seem to be working!

The rail system was replaced by mini under warranty from the previous owner as apparantly it was opened in the winter and then would not close to they had to fit new rails and guides as I think they bent!

The sat nav system was replaced due to the GPS showing Scotland as Berlin! and then it did not work so they replaced the aerial system.

I will look into the battery reset....

The first think you should do, it put some normal bulbs in the sidemarkers and see if that changes the behaviour.

The sunroof is a common problem and the auto-close/open function requires reinitializing to work. If the car's computer resets because of the battery, you will also loose the auto function until you reinitialize: HOLD the close button in the 1st stop for about a minute. After the first 20sec pass the sunroof will open fully and close back. You can then release the button and voila auto-close/open is there

But you need to work on the electrical problem, because if the computer thinks that the battery is flat, it will shut down some devices and erase settings. That's your main issue (and probably only issue).

PS: There is an Intelligent Battery Sensor on the battery of cars with high specification (e.g. nav) which monitors the battery. It could be faulty or not properly connected to the battery. Check its cables. Read carefully here

Yeah, I wouldn't surprised if all or most of your troubles are battery related, get it checked or replaced.
