Fog Lights Not Working

Hello all, I want to start off by saying I used the fog lights last night and they worked fine. But when I went to use them today they would not work. I try turning them on via the factory switch. The green light does not appear and the lights do not come on. I have an aftermarket set of driving lights attached to the fog light wire so that I could turn them on when I use my fog lights and look clean as well. I have had them on a month with no issues. But now it seems either the switch or fuse is bad? does anyone know what this could possibly be?

Have you checked the fuse yet?

Sounds like you just checked it. If the little terminal on the inside isn't burned up, the fuse is ok.

To do much more trouble shooting you're probably going to need a wiring diagram and a multimeter. My next step would be to see if there is power flowing to the back of the switch as it's supposed to be, which you would need to know which wires go where. I'd be interested to know how much power draw the driving lights have, and whether or not the wiring to the fogs can support it.

Just to make sure... you checked fuse F10 (15A) in the engine compartment? If you simply wired your driving lights in parallel with the fogs, it wouldn't be surprising that the fuse could blow with both sets of lights.

If the fuse was the problem, it wouldn't be safe to simply install a higher value fuse. You should really put your driving lights on a separate circuit and fuse, and controlled by a relay. You can use the fogs to trigger the relay.

The wiring diagram for the fogs can be found on page 14 of this document: http://www.motoringfile.com/howto/Fog%20Lights.PDF
