I, too, had issues with the oil pressure solenoid. I brought my 2011 MCS w/ 20k miles in for scheduled service a month ago and that's when they alerted me to the oil leak along with the door sill/coolant temp sensor recalls. The oil got into the wiring harness and DME so they ended up replacing it and the computer. I hadn't noticed any oil spots on the ground where I park but will be looking out for it now.

Long Beach Mini replaced the oil pressure solenoid valve and oil pan gasket. And, because the oil had migrated, they also replaced the engine wiring harness, at no charge.
We had the same warranty done to ours.

I dropped off my 2011 MCS at Bob Smith MINI in Calabasas yesterday for its routine 30k mile vehicle check (and to have the wipers and door sills replaced) and was contacted today that they discovered both a coolant and oil leak. I don't have any more details at the moment but I won't be surprised if I hear oil pump solenoid as the related cause. Coolant leak on the other hand is still a mystery.

I had the leak and mine was fixed by a recall - the gasket for the timing chain tensioner gasket was replaced. Oil leak is gone so far.

That picture at the top of the thread looks (and sounds) exactly like the leak I've been seeing from my 2012 bone-stock 'S'. It started about 4 months ago and I thought it was just an "incidental" issue at first. But now its a regular thing - a spot every day or two. I'm getting ready to take it in.
BTW, I don't use the car for commuting and have only put a little over 5K miles on it in the 15 months I've owed it. ...and its leaking oil. Not good.

Oil pump pressure control solenoid valve. Do NOT wait if you see an oil leak like this starting. Delay can cause oil migration into the engine wiring harness and eventually the DME (engine control computer). Simple fix, but don't wait forever.

Brought this in to East Bay Mini to have a look at my 2011 MCS with 24.5k miles this weekend. They figured the solenoid problem in less than 15 minutes in addition to performing the sun visor service campaign.

Interesting. MINI of Rochester will be replacing mine after "discovering" the issue during my annual service. I have a 2011 S.

Anybody know if the 2013 are affected? And what's the door sill recall?

I had a CEL come on but disappeared quickly. Since my car went in for a little bit, they replaced my solenoid valve too.

Just curious, what is the cause of that? I've searched everywhere but couldn't pinpoint it..

I just had my 2013 December 2012 build in for its first oil service, 8300 miles and they discovered the solenoid leak, replaced the solenoid, engine harness and t-stat as they stated to match the new harness. Sounds funny, but what I want to know if this is a revised part that they have been replacing since 2011 then why would my 6 month old c-man have the defective part???? Interesting.

I never had a leak but a CEL with no boost. They replaced the solenoid too.

My 2012 is in for the same issue 2000km on the clock. Oil pressure switch leaking oil and soaked the wiring harness. Parts are on back order and will take a month. Dealer gave me a 2013 MCS loaner.

I guess I'm glad to see that its not just my car with the issue but sad to hear that it is quite common :(

They replaced the thermostat housing on mine when they did that same job. Evidently the old housing wasn't compatible with the new wiring harness.

I wonder if they changed t-stat housings partway through the model year?

My 2011 MCS was repaired at the dealership 4-11-13. The oil pump solenoid was leaking through wire into engine wire harness. Solenoid and wiring harness were replaced. No charge.

Did MINI do the temp control thermostat mod/recall to yours 2k? I have a June '11 (I think) build '12 MCS and did have the mod carried out last year... Perhaps yours is a post mod build date were Slave may have a pre mod?

Nope, my car was not included in that recall, the part was probably already updated like you said.

That could indeed be it, then--mine is an 09/11 build.

Have a 2012 Justa (build 10/2011) 7k miles, surely enough I got the same solenoid leak problem. THank goodness I am reading these forums. Cant believe so many issues came up with our minis:
1. Water pump - replaced at 1500 miles - making squeky noise
2. Thermostat - replaced recently
3. Sunvisor hinge - need to be fixed
4. Rear seat latch - need to be fixed - making noises over humps

Anymore issues I need to watch out for?

What kind of fix was needed for the rear seat latch? What kind of sound was it making?
