The "Usuals"

OK

I pick up my 06 JCW Mini tomorrow, and I plan on getting it on a lift to check the brakes and undercarriage, just to make sure things are cool. It's only got 30k on it, and the maintenance history seems to be kept up with, but I want to know the usuals.

Anything I should specifically check for? I've heard of some issues with the motor mounts, also the supercharger belt and tensioner, and the power steering cooling fan.

Any others?

I am not going to modify the car in any way, and it'll be babied most of the time, but I do plan on having a session or two once in a while where I drive the socks off of it...

Thanks in advance!!!

Have an '06 MCS with about 36k miles on it. I just took it into BMW and are having the upper hydraulic engine mount, thermostat, and power steering hose replaced. I'd check these parts out as they are some of the most common problems. Also, spray the hatch and roof with a garden hose (imitate a thunderstorm) as sometimes the seal on the third brake light goes bad and the water ends up surrounding the battery in the bottom of the boot.

Best of luck! Look forward to some posts!

This is exactly the sort of info I'm thinking of - great! Thank You!

I'll check all that stuff.

Really looking forward to more tech talk with Mini lovers!!!

No problem! Since you don't sound like an agressive driver (but the occasional fun drive every now and then is nice ), I don't think you'll run into more of the serious problems that others have. I baby mine and I haven't had any of the more serious issues that I've read about on here. I don't track my MINI or fly over potholes so no suspension, strut mount, etc. issues. It's really just check the hoses, connectors, and seals for us casual, fun, daily driver type folk.

Great to hear lol. I'm not unused to maintenance (I don't think you can be avert to maintenance with any British or German vehicle, LOL!) but I just want to make sure I've got the basics down.

I saw the posts about the two speed fan resistor, and the supercharger/water pump rattle and I was like, *_*

lol Yeah I had the exact same reaction! I did a bit more research on it and it seems like those may happen more often with the aftermarket supercharge pulleys (i.e. 17%, 15%, reduction) and possibly not having a tune-up afterwards or an improper one. I don't want to speak for anyone but that is what I've seen the most often. All I can say is no worries here so far!
