2005 MCS automatic transmission HELP!!

I have a 2005 MCS semi-automatic transmission and im having problems when after driving it for around 20 mins

After those 20 minutes and the car is hot, my mini starts to jump and pull when changing from 1st to 2nd gear and 2nd to 3rd gear. After the 3rd gear the car runs good. It also jumps when I'm approaching a stop. The weird thing is that it only happens when the car is hot.

I was wondering if anybody else is having the same problem and if anybody could help me with a solution to this problem....

thanks a lot

Probably need to change the transmission fluid. There are a couple of searches here on how to do it yourself, or a good MINI specialist should be able to do it as well.

The MCS r53 auto is a conventional auto tranny.....
I would first check the fluid for both level and condition....often it is an overlooked mataince issue ....hopefully a fluid change/flush will take care of the issue.

Mine too! After she's warmed up, I get a false neutral situation between 3rd & 4th. It just revs until it jumps into the next gear. Shifting up & shifting down. In SD or with the paddle shifters: no difference. A tranny specialist told me its acting like a control valve body is disfunctional but; until he dropped it & looked into it in depth; he couldn't even guess at a total price. has anyone had this issue & got it fixed without a rebuilt tranny? What is the cause?

I'm having the exact the same problem as OP. 1st thing in the AM, my Mini has always hesitated/died for the 1st minute I run it but after that it is solid. Lately, when I get to work (20-25 minutes of driving) it starts slipping/slamming gears. It is the tranny. Looking back on it, I think it has been doing this since about 30K, but it just recently became really problematic at 93K or so. I'm trying drain/fills. What I found is it seems it was factory overfilled by almost a quart. Fixing that and replacement of the fluid has improved the situation somewhat. I'm hoping I can salvage the car. I've had my fill of problems (ABS module fried, Crank Shaft Pulley toast, Power Steering Pump bit the dust, and a bunch more). Even though this has been the worst and most expensive car I have ever owned, I am still trying to hang on to it because it has sucked me dry and I just don't have the cash to get something else (and no one will consider taking it in trade driving it the way it does). Check out the thread about "MCSA Tranny Fluid Change". Darth_Cooper had the same problem as us and he turned it around doing this. I bet, just like me, none of you had changed the tranny fluid because we all ate the Mini BS about "lifetime fluid". I spoke to Mini and they told me point blank "lifetime" means until it fails, which can be mile 1 or beyond. Since mine got over 60K I "exceeded the lifetime". As long as it fails after 60K, they don't care, because it is no longer under warranty. I'll never buy another Mini, or let anyone I know get one. If we would have just changed the tranny fluid regularly, we might not be in this pickle. I hold Mini responsible for this...

Hey guys. As a follow up I ended up getting the tranny fluid changed as well as a new filter. The mechanic told me the fluid was extremely dirty and was most likely the culprit for the missed shifts. It was pretty pricey for this. Getting the filter is a pain in the neck do to having to drop the sub frame to get it out. Great engineering there mini! Anyways just thought I'd let you guys know that this has resolved my problem. Good luck to everyone.

feedback: did 5 drain/fills and car is driveable again. still slippy and slammy at high heat occasionally, but 99% better. I think if I would have changed fluid earlier, it would be perfect like butter. thanks for nothing MINIUSA...

Actually, you don't need to remove the subframe to take the trans pan off. If you take the nut of the top left motormount, you can jack up the left side of the motor a couple of inches and that'll give you the clearance to remove the 2 screws obscured by the subframe.

You don't need to remove the subframe for the oil pan. What I sai is you need to is for the oil filter. There is no other way of getting at it unless you remove the sub frame.

tranny issues.........still!

Now I think I'm at the stage of multiple oil changes added to a new filter. I have the oil but: I cannot find an oil filter for my 6-speed Aisin TF60-SN tranny anywhere. Reading the thread, it reads as if some of you have not only found the filter but changed it too. Can anyone tell me where to buy a filter and: does anyone have a series of photos or a good diagram of how to actually change the filter?

I have an 06 MCSC 6-speed auto with 61k miles. I've only had it a year and had no apparent transmission issues until - wait for it - I had the brakes changed. I know it makes no sense, but within 1/4 mile of the shop I had only a high gear and no power. I crept back to the shop at 30 MPH while trying to shift manually as well as use the paddles - nothing. Dealer says I need new tranny. Is there any way something less expensive could solve this? Could it be as sole as the fluid? Why would this happen so instantly? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I haven't heard of this kind of failure. But sounds serious I'm afraid. Try a euro tranny shop for a second opinion.
