2011 mini question

I have a auto s and if iam on the freeway going about 30 in traffic in 6th gear and i punch it hard in will buck once in a while. i think in kicks into 2nd gear and hits the turbo at the same time . This does not happen in sport mode are if i dont stomp on it super hard. No codes come up.

Is this normal for the mini? I only have 400 miles. It did it this am. When iam on the freeway and coast down to about 40mph in 6th then stomp on it real hard the car bucks. If i press the gas a little lighter in runs normal. If in sport mode it shift first then i feel the turbo.

Mines done it a couple of times but seems to be only after a fillup at the BP Station. Never happened using Shell

Thanks for the post. I would like to break in the mini first before i rush off to the dealer. I really have to try hard to make it buck by mashing down hard on the gas to make it buck i have to coast my speed down luging the car in 5th or 6th then mash the gas down. When i just push instead of mash on the gas its fine are in sport mode it is also fine.

You're probably triggering "kickdown", which involves a few things including downshift, overboost and throttle. It's in the Owners Manual (look in the index) although it is vague describing what it actually does. Also search for kickdown in this forum.

Not sure why you would cost down to 30-40 in 5th or 6th gear. Are you in manual mode when doing this to hold it in high gear? Still not sure why you would keep trying to replicate this. I would break the car in for the 1200 miles like they say to and not try to trick the tranny into shifting 4 gears down becasue you want it to buck.

I was in the auto mode in traffic and noticed it then. Iam going to stop trying to replicate this so i dont mess up the tranny/computer. The mini is new to me and i got a little freaked out when it bucked. my last car was a mustang gt 5speed andi will have to get use to the mini. Thanks for you advice i feel better now and will break it in the right way.
