Door sill plate help needed

I have a 2003 MINi Cooper. The door sill on the passenger side has the plastic protective cover peeling. It's a thin plastic like wrap that was never removed. I don't know if the dealer should have removed it before delivery or if it's meant as a protection from scratches. However, after 8 years it's starting to peel. It's peeling like a bad sunburn, in little peices. I can't just peel it off in large sheets. Most of it seems bonded to the sill plate. Any advice on how I can safely loosen the adhesive so that I can remove the plastic film?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Buff it with a soft cloth. Could be very time consuming, but it will get the job done.

yep, that should have been removed at the dealer. Worst case scenario, you can always order a new one, it's super easy to replace.

Thanks for the reply. How do you replace it? I imagine it's held on by double stick tape.

Try wiping with an adhesive remover such as Goo Gone or 3M Citrus Based Adhesive Remover.

I have a 2003 that recently did the exact same thing. I tried several solvents (mineral spirits and DX330 wax and grease remover) which eventually loosened the plastic. It was time consuming, but working around the edges and inward let me slowly peel most of the material away. There was still residue left, so I tried denatured alcohol which finished the job perfectly. If I did it over again, I'd start with the denature alcohol. I waxed the strips and they look just fine. Good luck!

Success!

I used rubbing alcohol and it did the trick. I soaked a cotton ball with the alcohol and worked it alomg the edge. I managed to lift a section and by keeping the edge wet I was able to remove the plastic in pretty much a single sheet. After clean up with mothers metal polish I waxed it and now it looks like new!

Thanks for all the comments.
