2003 mini cooper s head gasket issue

Is it a common problem to have a failed headgasket repaired and then have it fail within 1000 miles? I have seen a couple of postings online and mine is doing the same thing.Water level dropping,no external leaks, water in oil.Is it possible to have an oil cooler problem without having oil in coolant bottle? The repair order for the head gasket replacement stated "no excessive warpage found" is there any way to machine the head? I have heard of some machine shops able to do it by attaching the head to a fixture and use heat to bring the head back to where it should be.Please help!

Some cars are having the radiator fail where the plastic crimps to the tubes..very common in this modern ddesgin...it is hard to spot...are you 100% sure the gasket failed?
Heads can be machined to make them flat...but if it was not "excessively warped when it was remounted....it was likly within spec....so no machining was done. Could be a bad install...it happens...

Some shops use aftermarkets head gaskets because they are cheaper than the OEM ones.
The OEM head gasket should be used or the FES-Auto copper one.
Heads can be "decked" by 2mm or .010".
Doing this will also increase C/R.
Would suggest doing leak down test and compresion test.
Thermostat gaskets are a very common failure.
Slow leakage, difficult to see.
Is there water in oil?
Easy check is dipstick or oil filler cap.
Oil will be frothy, creamy color.

No, it's not common for a head gasket to fail shortly after being replaced.
An oil cooler failure is not common either, but they do happen, and that would not necessarily draw oil into the coolant overflow.
FYI, as stated they can deck/shave/mill the head - they DON'T use heat to attempt to straighten it!

I would think any decent shop would warranty their work for more than 1K miles.

I think the key here is "properly replaced". If they just did a 'tilt and slide' they can replace the gasket and not check anything.

Thanks everyone for your help.Has anyone had a cracked head or block with a slow coolant pressure leak? I would think that it would be fairly quick.Just a thought before I have it torn down.Hoping it is just a gasket.
