Hey i was wondering if anyone knew what would cause an occasional slightly rough idle and a fast idle at other times.. I have heard stories about the vacuum pump going out and i wanna know if i should worry about mine or not.... 2004 MCS ~71K mi, and in need of a rack & pinion
First, the rack and pinion has nothing to do with the idle.
Second, the reason I got rid of my 03 was a rough, erratic idle that the dealer could not fix. To their credit, my local dealer got everything they tried covered under warranty, even though I was past the mileage marker. They even went so far as to replace the cylinder head. Didn't fix the issue. Eventually MINIUSA stepped in and said enough. So the local dealer said it was normal. So I said if it's normal, there's nothing wrong with the car and I WILL get full credit on trade in. That's how the 2nd 06 came to me.I bought it off the lot that day.
Not sure about the vacuum pump.
