Power steering pump keeps pumping even after the car is shutoff.

I'm fairly new at this forum and I'm experiencing power steering problems with my '05 MCS. I've search all over the place and come to find that it is a pretty common problem. My power steering pump keeps pumping even when the car is off which in turn discharges the battery. I've resorted to taking out the negative to save the battery and be able to start up the car. I got the chance to lift the car up at my father-in-law and we discovered that the fan was totally shot. I tried cleaning it a bit, blowing compressed air and was unsuccessful on making it even turn.

I wondering if replacing just the fan would solve the issue? Or will I have to replace the pump and the fan entirely. I'm hoping to replace just the fan since we do not have $600 laying around to get a new pump.

Thank you for any help.

You may get away with just the fan, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Mine is on its way out and it is just a matter of time.

Try here: http://www.waymotorworks.com/oem-pow...ering-fan.html

If you get lucky enough for them to return your email (I have tried for at least 3 months), I heard they were great to deal with.

These guys here: http://www.greasysgarage.com/main/ are great to deal with.

Regards, and best of luck. Let us know how you make out.

Sorry this is a common problem. You'll have to replace the pump to fix it.
