Airbag Light?
Airbag Light?
My airbag light has been on since I purchased the car on Monday, When i test drove it a week before all was good. The used car dealer had to replace a seat rail for me so im assuming that they disconnected the sensor. Is this a cheap fix, like just getting it to a dealer to clear the code since its plugged back in?
Thanks

Yeah it depends on the dealer, but they will probably want 1 hour labor to reset the light, so over $100.
Me personally I would get the used car place to take the car and fix it.

i called the used car dealer i got it from and they said they just took the seat out and replaced the rail. so they are 100% willing to pay for the dealer to reset the airbags. thanks guys
Wrong and wrong.
You can do work without disconnecting the battery first, you just make sure the key is not in the ignition so there's no chance of someone turning the key at all.
SRS light can be reset at places other than the dealer. I can do it with my laptop / software.

BMW/ MINI air bag lights resets are different than others, most people wouldn't know where to start using a personnal computer for resets ( BTW
key being in the ignition while working on the car is what I did
, oops

) and getting a non MINI dealer to do anything is like pulling teeth.

, oopsI agree that BMW / MINI srs systems are different than most. And yes you're right most people wouldn't know how to do it themselves.
I have had my seats in and out, and my drivers airbag in and out of the car without ever disconnecting the battery and I didn't trigger a code. I just made damn sure the key NEVER got put into the ignition, because on our cars even the 1st click "acc" powers on the SRS system. Why? I have no clue....
But Yes you are absolutely right, disconnect the battery cable to be 100% sure you don't trigger that stupid SRS light.
I'm now fighting a failed passenger seat occupancy sensor, mine is an 05, 1/05 build and it has 3 wires. No simple resistor trick for me. :(
