Engine Misfire

So I was going back to the office from an appointment when as I slipped the car into neutral my car all of a sudden started sputtering at idle. This sputtering continues as I drove as well. This was right next to the office so I didn't drive far. On my dash I had the service engine soon light stay on and the DSC light stayed on as well. On my way home I took the back roads to avoid pushing my car too hard. The longer I drove the worse the problem got to the point where my car stalled several times. I was able to make it to the dealership and one of their service people used a generic code reader as the tech had gone home. He said that my car had an engine misfire but he couldn't say what the other error was until Monday when a tech looks at the car.

Any idea what this could be? I just had a major service done and they changed all the plugs etc. The service guy checked the engine for anything obvious like a loose connection but didn't see anything obvious.

I know this could be a lot of things but just wondering if other people had a similar experiences and what the result was.

Not much info on your MINI ( mileage, year, S or non-S )

Absent that, plugs, coil pack and check wires and engine ground would be at the top of my list. Then working my way towards fuel delivery systems and parts.

Good luck.

Sorry about that.

It's a 2004 MCS with 80000 miles. I bought the car a year ago and just recently had service 1 and 2 done on the car as well as the spark plugs changed. I haven't checked anything on the car as I had to drop it off on my way home since it was giving me so much trouble. However in regards to the plug wires I have Nology Hot Wires that came with the car when I purchased it.

As you already suspected there's a laundry list of possibilities. If it's at the shop I am betting a solution is forthwith.

But if it was at home, to begin I would have suggested going back to stock on the wires just to see if there was a difference.

Good luck ! Keep us posted on your progress.

Well, turns out that I have lost the compression completely in one cylinder which is warped and needs to be polished and I also have a bad throttle body. They think the previous owner must have over heated the car as when I first bought the car it had a coolant leak. $3000 later.........
