Clutch problem on one-year-old 2009 Mini Cooper Clubman S (R55)
This thread does not make me feel very good.
I just bought a 2010 R55 S with 32k on it and it just had it's second clutch put in right before I bought it. The dealership didn't replace the flywheel because they said it didn't need it.
32k miles. Two clutches. No need for a new flywheel? I doubt that very much.
I did buy the 6yr/100k mile extended maintenance package because they pointed out that it covered the clutch also. And the cost was less than a clutch replacement.

Be careful. Dealers are saying that it's covered under the 36k warranty ( or extended maintenance ) and then turning around and saying they won't pay because the wear is excessive.
My clutch is on it's way out. Called the SA and she told me it was covered only under 36k warranty ( I'm at 42k ). Then I called the sales office and told them I was thinking about buying a car and asked them to explain the warranty in detail. Sales explained that it was covered under the 50k warranty. When I got the manager on the phone I told him what I was told by both people and asked for an explanation.
He had the tech call me and I described the problem and he thought he could get it done under warranty.
Yesterday he left me a message saying that he can't find anything wrong. My dealer is 200 miles away! I'll speak with them again today I'm sure.
My experience has been that they really don't want to fix anything. But, they always give me lots of wiper fluid. They have changed the oil twice for me and never even checked my air filter. When I pulled it out it was disgusting. So, there's they're maintenance plan.

Often this works to my advantage though. I'm hoping it does when it comes to this car and any warranty issues that may arise while I still have it.
I also have the advantage of being able to do all of the work myself and still get discounted parts. I'm hoping it won't come to that either.
Just became a proud owner of a 2010 R55 Laurel Sport w/ 32000 miles on it, bought at a Mini dealership in Maryland..
2 weeks after purchase, I mentioned some noise was coming from the clutch but didn't get a reply… Now 4 weeks later I looking at a $3,000 clutch/flywheel replacement….Definitely not what I was expecting. I'm used to drive Land Rover Defenders and Chevy Suburban's that can go 100,000 miles with just regular maintenance. oh well, better get used to visit the dealership service department more often then (and study this forum more closely)..
