VW Extending Warranty on 6 Speed Auto Transmission

I thought this was interesting, so I thought I would pass it along. My wife has an 06 VW Beetle, so I look at another forum that is similar to this one occasionally. The following thread was posted yesterday:

http://newbeetle.org/forums/transmis...-warranty.html

Essentially, the issue is that some VW Beetles have the same six speed automatic transmission that many Mini Coopers have (including mine). Volkswagen has extended the warranty on these transmissions because of defective valve bodies that cause a hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear.

I thought people would be interested in this because of MINI-BMW’s position that the automatic transmission fluid never needs to be changed for the “lifetime” of the transmission, despite the fact that several people on this forum are concerned with premature failure of their automatic transmissions.

Not only is VW extending the warranty but they've also changed the "lifetime" fluid to every 40,000 miles.

Nice to see VW stepping up to the plate to help their customers. I think the chance of MINI doing that are slim to none.

Yeah... BMW/Mini probably thinks we're the "recession-proof" crowd and that helping customers is admitting fault.
