SES Light - EVAP problem

Dear all,

I recently bought my 06 MCS from a local Ford dealer, then made the mistake of starting the car and letting it idle for quite a while as a friend was looking at it, the SES light came on, but then cleared after 5/6 starts.

The Ford dealer pulled the code and is reporting an EVAP issue, and will need to ship it over to a Mini dealer which could take a few days. Is this an issue for me to really worry about at all or should I tell him nto not worry about it (its going to be on their nickel), ie. as it cleared was this just a one time thing through my own mistake of letting the engine idle ?

Make sure your gas cap if fully tightened. A loose cap will throw a code.

If it is on their dime...let them track it down...it is possible the car had a loose gas cap, or a cracked vacuum line, or a bad sensor....all stuff that if it worsens out of warranty, will light the light, and drive most folks nuts...and cause a fail on inspections if your community does them, and make the car harder to sell....so if they want to let a dealer look at it...and the dealer finds nothing...then at least the issue is documented...and it will make it easier in the future perhaps.
Letting a car idle for a long period should not cause the light to come on.so you did not "make a mistake"....so unless the gas cap was taken off/left off/was loose when you were letting it idle, get it checked.
