BMW Admits HPFP Problem - Article

This is my first post and I hope it's not a duplicate. I just bought my wife a 2010 MC and have been reading posts in this forum for a few days. This article doesn't name the Mini directly but I'm sure it applies even if BMW doesn't admit it. I know about the HPFP problem because I almost bought a BMW 335 last year but didn't because of the horror stories on the Internet. I noticed several threads about the HPFP on this forum and thought you guys might find this interesting.

I am relaxed. I didn't buy an S because my wife commutes and wanted the better fuel mileage. It's just an article I though was interesting and thought I would share.

thanks for the post, and welcome!
The HPFP issues have been talked about here on NAM quite a bit, but I hadn't seen that article about an official recall from BMW on any model. Good find! I know that users who have complained about the pump to the dealer have had them replaced under warranty, at least.

This is all good news for the consumer. Every car has issues, and every model year has the risk of this or that manufacturing error. When we read about recalls, voluntary or mandatory, it just means they are taking action, hopefully sooner than later. But our connected, global communication environment these days makes this sort of thing happen much sooner than it used to, because the evidence of reproducible line-wide failures is more apparent and immediate to everyone: consumers, manufacturers, dealers and the news.

Yeah the HPFP issue does apply to all 07+ S models. The recall does not, however, apply to the MINI. MINI USA doesn't seem to think that this is an issue and has stated the the extension of the warranty on this particular part is sufficient.

So....... no MINI recall.

At least when the MINI R56 S HPFP goes it doesn't shake the friggin' car like they're describing!

For now. As I stated in another thread, it took several months to propagate over for the extended warranty... I am hoping this recall follows. I suspect it takes time for NHSTA to realize its the same mediocre part and force BMW to make things right.

Obviously BMW thinks more of its higher paying customers than us Mini pukes...

The major problem with all of this is that BMW has not found a solution to the HPFP problem - they are merely replacing them with the same pump model. Despite trying to redesign the pump, nothing has fixed this problem to date. So, those of us (yes, mine has been replaced for failing) with new pumps, the problem can most definitely come back to haunt us again.
