Frozen Tire Rod. Yes or No?

Yellow,

I was wondering if I should get my frozen tire rod fixed fro $600? My car went into the shop for some body work because of an accident =[. Anyways, while my car is in the shop getting fixed, they called and said that my tire rod is frozen. They said that the frozen rod didn't happen because of the accident. He said it was there already before the accident. What would you recommend doing. The parts is $300 and another $300 for labor. What is the benefits ill get out of it if I do fix it? If it worth fixing? i never noticed something wrong when I drive my car, but the mechanic said you wont feel a difference. He said that the tires can wear from the inside really fast and its bad for the tires if I don't get it fixed. What should I do.

Thanks

That is a tie rod. If it is frozen it most likely is because of rust. The cost quoted for repair seem high, but unless it is fixed your MINI can not be aligned. My guess is that you need an alignment after your accident.

Did they try to "un-freeze" it? I went in for an alignment and they had trouble with a tie rod. After enough penetrating oil and some heat from a small torch, they got it unstuck. Maybe yours is too far gone, but at least they should try to break it lose before trying to sell you a replacement.
