2003 Cooper: Manual trans. Stuck in 2nd gear . The shifter will move into 1st, 2nd, neutral, but anywhere else it feels...not sure of the word..."locked out" maybe. Can move the shifter with or without the clutch depressed, but it does not change the gear- always in 2nd. The clutch does work when depressed- disengages the gear.

I'm going to check out the shift cables tonight, but looking for any additional advice/ideas?

I think your shift cables will be the problem. A much easier & cheaper fix than a gearbox. Let us know what you find.
