Engine fun :)

Ok, So I have done some extensive searching and reading about this an I feel like no one is having the EXACT problem I am so I need some opinions.

My '05 MCS is running relatively loud. It is a chatter of sorts (sounds like a little truck). As I recall when i first got the car, I don't believe this noise is normal.

Its not something that starts when the car is cold and then goes away, its permanently there. Its not SUPER loud, but enough to annoy me with the windows down. I just changed my crank pulley and belt tensioner because they were being noisy too, but this is the last step in quieting down my engine. with the hood open it sounds like the noise is coming from the Valve cover. I will be opening it up soon to check it out.

There are a few youtube videos showcasing a very similar sound and referring to broken hydraulic lifters, this is what I am leaning towards right now, but there is NO INFO on where I can even buy these parts.

If anyone has an opinion/suggestion/or idea on what the problem may be and where I can look to find new lifters/tappets I would GREATLY appreciate it!

Thanks!

timing chain tensioner. same problem I had. It will get louder after a while and then that's when I finally decided to get it replaced.

Make sure your oil is topped off. Seems obvious but had another poster about a month ago and that was his fix. Otherwise chain tensioner is a good bet.

+1 to checking oil first. If the noise remains, you can diagnose its source by getting a mechanic's stethoscope. They are relatively inexpensive. If you cannot locate one, the old-school way is to use a long flat-head screwdriver and hold one end up to your ear. Check near the crank area as per the timing chain recommendation, then check the supercharger, especially the back end at the water pump.

Is the noise coming from the driver's side of the engine bay? Does the noise go away when you depress the clutch pedal. Could be the flywheel. When it goes bad, it can sound like a faulty lifter.
