Having a header and short shifter installed on Tuesday. They obviously have to remove my Magnaflow in order to do the job and I was contemplating having them weld it and be rid of the clamps. I've been having a hell of a time keeping them tight anyway. Any thoughts on this? Pros, cons. I've just read a thread about some people having problems with their resonators on the Magnaflow. I haven't had this occur yet, but if I get the welding done and then a problem comes up am I still okay with Magnaflow as far as warranty goes?

Thanks,

Ken

If you like the Magnaflow and want to get the tightest seals and not have to worry about the clamps then welding is an option. You might check with Randy Webb from Webbmotorsports or Eric from Helix13 and ask about any negatives.
The Magnaflow should last a very long time. The stock exhaust is essentially a one piece fully welded unit.

My Rogue is welded. I bought it from another MCOer who had it welded for his car. Fit perfect on mine and works great. No leaks, no worries.

Go for the WELD. I had my NRP exhaust welded as I too had a loose clamp, more my initial installation issue than a product concern. Besides adding the system rigidity is a plus, it actually centered the tips better, i.e. less wobble. Don't see a down side.

Weld probably adds a little to the labor time-maybe not.
Makes the exhaust install more permanent and less likely to form leaks. The Magnaflow comes in parts so that it is easier to ship and adjust to get it to hang right given small differences in each MINI.

If you are sure about how you like the Magnaflow then weld away. Even if you have to take it off later you can still sell it and install into another MCS and unweld as needed.

All good stuff from those that have replied. Still looking for a bit of a heads up on the issue of the resonator if anybody can help.

One more thing...if you weld, you are tied in to how far your tips stick out right? Of course you are. So how do tell the guy who is doing the welding to pre-measure or lay it out so it is how you want it to look/sound? See what I mean? Maybe he knows already, I dunno.

Just not wanting to walk in on Tuesday and say to him, "Weld it!" and come back and see my tips in line with my rear wheels.

efcmini,

Before welding do a "vulcan mind meld" with the weld guy or just show him a picture of what you want it to look like.
Did you ever notice how meld rhymes with weld? Weird!
I'd be scared to try a "mind weld" wouldn't you??
