We have a 2005 MINI Cooper R50 with a strange problem which is beating us !!! , the engine continues to run after the key is switched off ( and the car locked ) , now what has been done so far , ign switch replaced , no codes are coming up , only happens occasionally , all PAS pump wiring checked for poor connections , all relevant connections and wiring 'plugs' checked for corrosion , BCM checked for water ingress , anyone on here have a similar problem ? any help would be really appreciated .

The reason i asked is i have never heard of a car continuing to run unless an after market timer was installed like my '95 eclipse GS-T, i can set it manually or auto and it calculates how long the engine needs to run so that the turbo can cool down as not to boil the oil that is inside the housing.
Any chance it had a remote starter installed then uninstalled before you purchased the car ?
Any aux devices / wiring plugged into the fuse box ?
All I can come up with at the moment if you indeed had a new ingnition switch installed.

Thanks Guys , car is totally standard spec , no adverse history , no water ingress etc . someone has suggested it may be related to power steering pump but we have checked the loom and no signs of 'burning' or corroded connections .
