Passenger window pops out of Track at high speeds?
Passenger window pops out of Track at high speeds?
Hi, here is a short video of my problem.. now this is on the way back from MTTS and MITM to Fort Worth TX so I had to put up with this nosie for over 13 hours!
we had the Mini A/C going with all the window shut and traveling at speeds from 60-
mph and it would crack open and make this gap!! I thought the whole window would fly away with pressure pushing it out!! So I would have to crack the drivers side down ..and then crack the passenger window down/up and then close the drivers window up a bit...to create pressure or vacuum
Gosh, I let a lot of nice A/C out !!!

that is a bit crazy, and looks totally unsafe.
I had mine pop out of socket before.
think i just took the door panel off and jimmied the window back on track. there are some older posts on here for a better write up on how to fix it yourself.

Its still under warranty ...I don't want to fix it myself!! I was talking to this Mini Dude.. and he said that if I take it to the dealership they will not fix it!! If I tell them it only happens at higher speeds..
mph...because they can not test it!! "they will not drive the mini fast" and they will just say don't go that fast and it won't happen.. so if I stay around 55-65ish mph, it will not happen! "the window popping out of track! so, is it a rule to have all the windows down when you are tracking your mini on a high speed DE course? then the car will not have that problem?

So, don't tell them that.....
Tell them it pops out on the highway when it's real windy out, like a cross wind or headwind - they still can't verify it but at least they may take a look at it. My guess is that they're just not rolling up far enough to engage the top seal properly - after all, this is why they jump dpwn a bit when you open the door and back up when you close it.
I agree, if it's under warranty, it's under warranty.
When you're on track you must drive with all your windows down for safety reasons, so you can't use this as a case when it does it.
Next time it does it, pop the sunroof up to relieve the pressure, then roll them down a bit and back up to seal properly - then close the sunroof.
Or slow the heck down! What are you doing driving this fast on the road, anyway?

There are tracks (I think) that can be moved to make the window top move closer to the center of the car. The set screws can be seen under the car door about 5 inches from each end. I would try to adjust them a bit to see if you can get the front of the window to be a bit more deep in the weatherstrip. Just move a little at a time and make sure it doesn't torque the window which will probably end badly sooner or later.

this lady is not stopping on the side of the road in the boonies.YES, Yes, you are right!! about the pressure!! I would roll the drivers side down a little and equalize the pressure and shut the passenger window and the problem is solved for about 15 -20 min..or until we hit a hard bump and the window would pop out again!!
So yes, we did slow the mini down. even loud music could not drown that hissing window!!

This happened to our 2010 JCW Clubman on the way back to California from the Dragon, it turned out to be a malformed weather stripping at the top of the door, the dealer replaced it with no questions asked.
It was a small deformity at the top back corner of the door, it would go unnoticed unless you were comparing the drivers side with the passenger side.
No problems now at speeds that you cannot mention on this forum.
