What have you paid for these repairs?

Dropped off the MCS '05 today to the dealer for an oil change and a checking of the reappearing flywheel rattle, and they phoned to tell me it needs:
  1. Oil pan gasket -722.00
  2. Exhaust hanger -193.00
  3. Water pump 1248.00
They did phone back to say the price would be about 20% less due to a misquote on the labor rate, but I'm still in shock. They've been very helpful to me in the past, but I'm blown away now. What have you paid for these services?

If it's not under warranty, don't take it to the dealer. Find a local independent shop that works on BMWs and MINIs.

^+1.

- ahh, why do they say you need a new water pump exactly ?

- 200 dollars for replacing an exhaust hangar ? Something doesn't sound quite right there either, are you getting a new mid section to your exhaust with that maybe ?

Oil pan gasket a bit to get to as the sub frame has to be dropped, but an independant mechanic who knows MINI's can do way less time than a dealer.

Would also have the mechanic check the pulse generator seal below the supercharger, and main bearing seal while in there. Both are also known leakers besides the Oil pan gasket and may be contributing to the wet underside of the engine.

Just my 2cents but I have never had to drop a subframe to get the oil pan/gasket off.

and agreed replace the crankshaft sensor oring while in there.

Sounds like you should search for a local indy shop. Where are you located perhaps we have recommendations.

Water pump is a fairly easy job. Make sure you change the S/C oil while your doing it on both sides. And I would get two new o rings and a new flange that bolts on the block. Oil pan should be a pretty straight forwards change.

Way overpriced.
